Invitations are sent out toward the end of the preceding semester. All students who are still enrolled at the time the invitations are sent out will automatically receive an invitation via their LMU campus email address.

If delivery by email is not possible, the invitation will be sent by post to the permanent home address recorded in your student account.

Bachelor's degree programs

Invitations are automatically sent to all graduates who, by the specified deadline, have earned at least 180 ECTS credits and whose degree certificate has already been issued by the ISC.

Master's degree programs

Invitations are automatically sent to all graduates who, by the specified deadline, have earned the required number of ECTS credits (generally at least 120 ECTS, depending on the degree program) and whose degree certificate has already been issued by the ISC.

Important note: As the event organizers, we have no influence over the timely submission of grades or ECTS credits. The internal deadline for submitting grades required for the issuance of degree certificates is communicated well in advance. Invitations are based exclusively on the official student records available to us by the specified deadline.

Unfortunately, for organizational reasons, it is not possible to add participants after the deadline, even in exceptional cases.

We appreciate your understanding.

Your invitation will normally be sent to your LMU campus email address. If delivery by email is not possible, it will be mailed to the permanent home address stored in your student account.

Please also note that invitations are sent out in several batches.

If some of your fellow students have already received their invitations, this does not necessarily mean that you will not receive one. In many cases, invitations are sent at a later stage.

We therefore kindly ask you to refrain from making inquiries until all invitations have been distributed.

If you have not received an invitation by then, or if you have any further questions about the Academic Graduation Ceremony, please contact us at abschlussfeier@som.lmu.de and include your student ID number (Matrikelnummer).

No. Participation is only possible if, by the specified deadline, you have earned the required number of ECTS credits and your degree certificate has already been issued by the ISC.

No. Your invitation is valid only for the ceremony to which you have been invited. Unfortunately, for organizational reasons, participation in a later ceremony is not automatically possible.

Yes. Although you will receive an invitation automatically, you must register by the specified deadline using the registration process outlined in your invitation. This enables us to confirm your attendance and make the necessary arrangements for both you and your guests.

The registration deadline will be stated in your invitation. Please make sure to register by this date, as late registrations cannot be accommodated for organizational reasons.

If you are unable to attend after registering, we kindly ask you to inform us by email as soon as possible so that we can adjust our planning accordingly.

Please note that cancelling your participation does not automatically entitle you to attend a future Academic Graduation Ceremony.

The Academic Graduation Ceremony takes place in the Great Assembly Hall (Große Aula) of LMU Munich. Detailed information on the venue, admission, and the schedule will be provided in your invitation.

  • Formal ceremony in the Great Assembly Hall (Große Aula): approximately 2 hours
  • Reception with sparkling wine in the Light Court (Lichthof): approximately 1 hour

Please arrive well before the start of the ceremony to allow sufficient time for registration, admission, and seating.

Until the official admission to the Great Assembly Hall begins, we kindly ask you to remain in the Light Court (Lichthof) or the Sperrträger area.

Please observe the stated admission times and refrain from entering the Great Assembly Hall early, reserving seats, or similar activities, as this significantly interferes with our preparations.

Late admission may be restricted depending on the stage of the program. We therefore strongly recommend arriving on time.

Please also note that if you arrive late, we cannot guarantee that you will still be able to be called on stage or participate in the stage procession.

You may register up to two guests.

Please note that, due to strict fire safety regulations and the seating capacity of the Great Assembly Hall (Große Aula), we must adhere to this limit.

We therefore kindly ask you to refrain from requesting additional guest tickets.

No. Due to the venue's fixed capacity and fire safety regulations, there is no waiting list for additional guest tickets.

Changes are only possible within the communicated deadlines and subject to organizational feasibility. If you wish to make any changes, please contact us as early as possible.

Yes. Please note that children also count as guests. As seating capacity is limited, we kindly ask you to take this into account when registering your guests.

No. Participation in the Academic Graduation Ceremony is free of charge for both graduates and their registered guests.

We recommend wearing formal or festive attire (e.g., business attire or equivalent), but there is no mandatory dress code.

The academic gown rental is organized by the WASTI Student Association.

Wearing a gown is not required to attend the ceremony. If you would like to take commemorative photos, you may borrow a gown from the gown rental stand for a limited period. The gowns are primarily intended for photos and personal keepsakes before and after the ceremony in the Great Assembly Hall (Große Aula).

A professional photographer will be present throughout the event. You are welcome to approach the photographer directly. Information on how to access or order your photos will be provided during the ceremony.

No. At the ceremony, you will receive a symbolic graduation certificate.

Your official original degree certificate is issued separately by the ISC and, for data protection reasons, can only be collected directly from the ISC.

If you have a disability, health-related limitations, or require any assistance, please contact us as early as possible at abschlussfeier@som.lmu.deso that we can make appropriate arrangements to support you.

As part of the reception, beverages (sparkling wine, orange juice, and water) will be provided.

Any additional information will be communicated in advance, if applicable.
